Cotoneaster Bonsai with handmade pot #02
Cotoneaster Bonsai with handmade pot #02
Cotoneaster is a vigorous, dense evergreen shrub with trailing stems studded with small, leathery, glossy, rounded, dark green leaves. The foliage turns reddish-bronze or purplish in in Winter before becoming green again in Spring. Tiny, 5-petaled, white flowers adorned with purple anthers are produced in late Spring to early Summer. They are followed by brilliant berries which ripen red in Autumn and persist through Winter.
The flowers attract bees and butterflies and the fruits are eaten by birds.
Caring for Cotoneaster bonsai
Caring for this plant is easy. Water until water comes out of the drainage holes in the bottom. In Spring and Autumn, Cotoneaster bonsai benefit from full sun and part shade.
Good to know: Prune cotoneaster any time of year. Most types only need light pruning to remove undesired branches. To keep the plants looking neat, cut out selected branches all the way to the base rather than shearing or shortening them.
Fertilizing
Moderate application of once a month is all that's necessary to keep Cotoneaster bonsai growing strong.
